Nestled on the shores of a 110 acre reservoir in Erin, NY is a county-run campground that has only 40 sites. Each site offers views of the Lake, as well as cleaned fire pits, a picnic table, and electricity. The sites are spacious and wooded. What makes this park even more exceptional is that they include daily garbage pick up included in the price. No walking to a dumpster at the front of the park required. The park offers a beach with lifeguards, fishing, boat rentals, 2 playgrounds, picnic area with pavilions, a snack bar, miles of hiking trails, and one of the cleanest laundry facilities we’ve ever seen. To top that off, they also offer worms for sale for your fishing needs, and firewood by the bundle for sale at the check in area. If you are looking to purchase larger quantities of wood, you can go on Facebook Marketplace and message some local vendors. Bring your kayaks or rent a boat and paddle the lake and spot an Osprey while out on the water. Motorized boats are not permitted in the lake. Leashed pets are allowed, but don’t forget your dog’s rabies certificate. Getting to this hidden gem requires driving up some hilly roads but getting to this campground is worth it.
Things to do in the area include a 25 mile drive to Watkins Glen State Park to hike miles of gorge trails with 19 waterfalls along the way. Watkins Glen International Speedway is nearby for race fans or stop and get ice cream at The Great Escape. Kids and animal lovers will love a visit to Farmland Animal Park. Not only will you be able to interact with the animals, they also offer zip lines, paddle boats, and wagon rides included in the entry price. For wine lovers, the Finger Lakes region of NY boasts over 130 wineries including favorites such as Bully Hill Vineyards. Stop by the highly recommended National Soaring Museum in Elmira, NY to view the history of motorless flight. Next door to the Soaring museum is Harris Hill Amusement park which offers putt putt golf, go-karts, batting cages and more. Art lovers can make their way to Arnot Art Museum which showcases 17th-, 18th-, and 19th-century European paintings; and 19th- and 20th-century American art. For a unique experience, a visit to the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY is a must. Visitors will be blown away by the interactive displays of glass blowing and sculpture creation. Also in Corning is the Corning Country Club. The USGA rated course will be sure to make the golfer in the family very happy. Did you forget to bring something?
