3 Free things to do near Niagara Falls worth seeing

Are you looking for free things to do near Niagara Falls, NY that are worth seeing? We are always looking for ways to see budget friendly things to do when we go on camping trips. In fact, the whole reason we started camping is because it is cheaper than buying airline tickets and booking a hotel. Plus, we get all of the comforts of home. So we are going to be visiting 3 free places to see near Niagara Falls that are actually worth seeing or doing!

  1. Devil’s Hole – Whirlpool State Parks. These two day parks sit side by side along the Niagara River, and offer picnic tables and an epic hike down into the Niagara River Gorge to the Niagara River’s edge. A hike along the bottom takes you to a rocky outcropping that has worn smooth over time that you can sit and watch the class 5 & 6 rapids speed by. Towards the Whirlpool end of the park is the spot where the water coming over Niagara Falls has to do a U-turn in order to exit the mouth of the River into Lake Ontario. Look above you to see the Spanish Aerial Car that moves people over the Whirlpool between the US and Canadian sides. Or sit and watch the Niagara Jet Boats as they take passengers up through the rapids. It’s a great way to spend a day taking in the power of Niagara that doesn’t cost a thing other than a little sweat. Click to learn more: Devil’s Hole State Park. Or here for Whirlpool State Park.
  2. All of this water gets put to good use as it gets processed through the Niagara Power Plant. A visit here will teach you how the Power Project was built, how the water is harnessed to transfer into electricity, how the average American Home uses the store energy and more. There are many interactive displays including a 4D theater, a debate about the types of power presented by Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla, and many ways that you can create your own power. Visitors are given a Power Player badge that allows you to customize the experience and then view online afterwards, and it is all free. 3. Last but not least, on the same campus of Niagara University lies Castellani Art Museum. Their exhibits of varying art types are on display for all to see. The museum also offers programs such as Kids n Art Summer Camp, Public tours, and Folklife workshops. There are crafts for kids including learning origami!
