Camping at Letchworth State Park, NY – An Outdoor enthusiasts dream.

Letchworth State Park is an incredible place to visit and here are only a few reasons why. It’s huge! – Letchworth spans two counties in the state of New York – Livingston and Wyoming with over 14,000 acres of absolutely stunning wooded park. Voted #1 attraction in New York in 2017, this 17 mile long park is also known as the Grand Canyon of the East, with it’s deep gorges that the Genesee river runs through, cascading over 3 large waterfalls. With 66 miles of hiking trails through lush forests, there is no shortage of ways to explore this park.

The completely restored Glen Iris Inn, located within the park is a wonderful place for an overnight stay or for a destination wedding overlooking the middle falls. This country estate formerly owned by William Pryor Letchworth, was built in 1914. It now serves as a seasonal hotel, wedding venue, and restaurant. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Inn is open for the public.

Another spectacular attraction is when hot air balloons fly above the falls. There is also a swimming pool, and white water rafting within the park! Our favorite time of year to visit is in the fall when the leaves are turning the splendid colors of red, orange and yellow.

In the winter, people travel to the park to see the fountain outside the Glen Iris Inn freeze into an “ice volcano”. As the pond water starts to freeze the water from the fountain in it’s center forms a tall column of frozen water that needs to be seen. Winter activities include snowshoeing, cross country skiing, sledding, and snowmobiling.

Letchworth State Park is a must see destination when visiting New York State. No matter then season, the park has plenty to offer in outdoor recreation.
